We have been working hard to get ready for our chickens. We are having three rescue hens. These have been battery hens and we are resucing them from their lives in a small cage. They will now have a wonderful life as free-range chickens! We are also incubating some eggs and we will keep some of those as well. The eggs will start incubating over the Easter holidays and they will hatch when we come back to school.
This week we have been very busy. Mr Roe put up our chicken run and we have painted it all with preservative. The wildlife club then built the hen house and then painted that with preservative as well so it is all protected. We are nearly ready to welcome our hens!
All that is left to do is to staple chicken wire around the bottom. This will stop the hens getting out when they are small. It will also stop the foxes getting in to them.
Watch this space to find out more about our chickens
The live stream of our blue tit nest is now on the front page of the school website, so you can keep an eye on how they are getting on, especially over the Easter holidays. You can make a comment on the bog too, so if you see anything exciting happening… then let us know!!!
There is not a lot of movement happening except that the bluetits are still buiding their nests. Fingers crossed so hopefully the bluetits will start laying their eggs!!!!
The bluetits have been in and out bringing
their materials for the nest. It has been
raining so there is not as mutch activity
as usual.
Great news! The blue tits have started nest ing in our nest box and the computer crew will be uploading some photos every day to keep you up to date with their progress! So, watch this space for some photos and videos!
The blog has been rather quiet of late, but I am hoping that that is going to change in the next few weeks. Pupils in year 5 & 6 will be adding to the blog as we tell you all about some of the exciting things that will be happening in school….. blue tits nesting in our nest box (it’s looking promising!) and the pitter patter of tiny feet….. we will be getting some hens in school very soon, we hope.
So keep popping in to check up on how we are getting on…..

This week in gardening club, we had great fun making delicious pizza from the tomatoes that we grew this year in the garden! Mrs Walker had collected and frozen the tomatoes over the summer holidays and we used that to make the base for our pizza.
We also had some fun with conkers.
